The name "Armetale" is an artificial term combining "art" and "metal", and was coined by Mr. John Fitzpatrick in 1963 as the marketing director of the Wilton Brass Company. The new "pewter-like" "art metal" items provided additional products for sale along with the existing brass items sold by the Wilton Brass Company. The exact combination of metals was assisted in development by metallurgists from the North American Smelting Company to arrive at an alloy that had the appearance of pewter and silver and also would meet the food service requirements of the United States Food and Drug Administration. |
